Day 11: Check out a movie for $10 or less!

I LOVE movies.  If money and work wasn’t an option, I’d be at the cinema everyday!  My first movie outing was to see ET at age four.  My parents took me to the Starlight Theatre in Papatoetoe to watch it, and apparently I perched myself on the armchair and cried out loudly for ET not to go home!

Despite the onslaught of the internet, Netflix, Lightbox, Neon and countless other on-demand platforms, nothing beats the feeling of sitting in a dark space (with the whiff of popcorn in the air), watching a movie on the big screen.  Your eyes are totally focussed on the movie in front of you, all senses engaged (including the ability to taste a delicious ice cream).  I for one am definitely looking forward to the next instalment of Star Wars later on in the month and I can’t wait for the sensory overload.

The festive season can be an expensive time of year, but I can recommend three cheap cinema options for mainstream films:

Event Cinemas Westgate (Westgate Shopping Centre 1-5 Fernhill Dr, Massey) – all movies are $10 per person

Event Cinemas Westcity (level 4, Westfield Westcity, Edsel St, Henderson) – all movies are $8.50 per person

Reading Cinema LynnMall (3058 Great North Rd, New Lynn) – tickets range between $8 and $13 per person

So if the weather is too hot for your liking, or you are too overwhelmed by the Christmas madness, then get yourself to cinema instead!

#xmascountdown2017  From 1-24 December I will blog daily suggestions with tips and advice on awesome things to do, see or experience during the festive season.  The summer also represents a perfect opportunity on mental and physical wellbeing; a time to re-charge, re-energise and to re-focus.  You’re welcome.
